Pros

Even in the face of an economic downturn, title giant First American has managed to find ways to remain profitable. From an employee perspective, this translates into higher job stability and a more comprehensive benefits package. The workload is constantly challenging without being overwhelming, and this has fostered a cooperative, team-driven culture that in turn encourages all members to give their best, while at the same time managing to balance their work with their personal life.

Cons

Career stalling, due to a lack of opportunities for personal growth and advancement, especially for highly skilled employees in technical fields, because the only path for advancement involves taking on project management and leaving technical tasks. There's no training to speak of, and the performance review process is acceptable, but middle and upper management rarely pay heed to suggestions. And the dark side of being profitable involves a penny-pinching attitude that means no bonuses, insignificant raises and wages that are average or lower than those paid at other companies for similar job titles and experience.

Advice to Management

Smaller divisions of the company should be treated equally to the large ones. Even with a depressed economy and market, not everything is about the bottom line, and a penny-pinching attitude (or image) only contributes to making the most capable employees look for better opportunities.

A fairly good place to work but needs attitude adjustment by management to become a great place to work.

    Pros

Flex timings, the compensation is pretty competitive and the benefits are good.

    Cons

Management chaos - the management doesn't know their head from their you know what... IT projects outsourced to India are managed HORRIBLY and usually results in failed worthless products patched up to look great. Employee retention is very low on their priority, employees to them are just a expendable statistic.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to really do more than just try to push buttons. India team is horrible, if you can't manage it get rid of it. The India team in this company is only present to show that they are trying to save costs and please the shareholders.. that is it. There is very high attrition in their India branch and total chaos.

    Pros

I would have given my heart & soul to remain an employee at First Am, but was laid off 5/30/08, after 3 years. I was able to land a fantastic job with a law firm, that puts the employee first, NOT the bottom line. so thank you Parker Kennedy for 3 years of paid training. I now prefer to work for companies that only have employees in the USA!

    Cons

Never knowing when you will be booted.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking of yourselves, and get a life outside of work, because you maybe the next to go.
