Pros

Great benefits including insurance, ESOP, 401K, etc. Conservative culture with high moral standards. Big emphasis on being a team-player.

Cons

High stress. Has its own strong culture that may not be a good fit for everyone.

Advice to Management

Start building relationships with other officers early if want to stay there long-term. Get to present loans at the Loan Committee as much as you can. Be positive and humble.

    Pros

Employees at other locations were really nice; overall work environment at other locations was said to be much more enjoyable as people didn't enjoy having to work at the branch that I was located at.

    Cons

Favoritism, preferential treatment, allowed certain people to behave in a manner others were repremanded for, other employees were permitted to talk down to (rude and demeaning) lower level personnel. Complaints from multiple individuals were overlooked and ignored.

  2. Helpful (3)

Archaic development/technology policies. Don't become an engineering dinosaur.

    Pros

-Better than average pay/benefits for tech field.

-Easy to be impressive with a not-so-impressive skill sets if you've been keeping current in the industry.

    Cons

-Unbelievably archaic tech policies, equipment and programming languages used. Expect to use technologies and skills a decade behind their time. Innovation is discouraged.

-Due to dinosaur technologies, if you stay too long you will no longer be marketable in tech/engineering after you leave.

-Employees sit in hundreds of beige cubes with no natural light and nowhere to walk in a wasteland of parking lots in Lakewood.

-Conservative dress codes from the 60s - complete with pantyhose requirements, no peep-toe shoes, and skirt length measurements regardless of whether you have a public-facing position or not.

-Big-brother policies on what websites you can view, whether you are given a sound-card in your computer and what software you are allowed to use. Need a new tool to make your project run? Expect to have to fight for months for it. Want to listen to an online tutorial on a programming technology? Sorry, no sound card for you.

-Very conservative (politically, technologically & morally) attitudes. Management is chosen based on how well they fit this mold.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the outside tech industry and take notes about where things are going. Abandon the archaic before it's too late and reward those who attempt to innovate. Try to move your HR policies into the last decade.
