I have been working at FirstEnergy

    Pros

A stable company with a good work-life balance. Benefits are typical for a utility company of this size, however in recent years have been cut back some with the downturn of the economy in 2008.

    Cons

Employees are overworked and compliance ultimately rules a lot of what we do here. Personal growth is valued by management, but not a guarantee of promotion. Promotion appears to be time based, more than ability-based.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions should be more consistent across work groups. It appears that additional credentials do not matter in some groups, but do and others.

I worked at FirstEnergy full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Great work hours and benefits

    Cons

Not flexible when scheduling earned vacation pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow your employees to take the vacation time they want and not just what suits you. Especially if the request was given 6 weeks in advance!
