I worked at FirstEnergy

Pros

Can make a lot of money working overtime

Cons

People working at the plants are nice, but managers are not kind, and are very dogmatic. They threaten employees that don't "get in line", and is very much the good ol' boy network.

Not very diverse work, and the majority of the technology is very old and out dated.

Managers are very cheap, and sometimes do not want to pay overtime.

Could care less if you have a life outside of work, they would rather you ruin your life, get divorced, and stay at their unhealthy plants.

Managers think its the best place on earth to work , and don't understand why morale is low.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real, and start to listen to employees, and stop taking out such enormous bonuses, and then have plant employees work overtime and scold them for charging for it.

I have been working at FirstEnergy

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits for the area. Good job security in some positions. Extensive training is provided for some positions. Opportunities for advancement within the company.

    Cons

Long hours -- there is no work/life balance. Management makes impulsive decisions with poor results and blames workers. There is generally an adversarial relationship between workers and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees at all levels with respect. Try to retain employees who do good work and have extensive experience. Listen to input from workers when making decisions. Make decisions that will be beneficial in the long term rather than doing things that look good now but will backfire in the future.

    Pros

Get to see some interesting things in the plants.

    Cons

Pushing paper all day that has little to do with what I went to school for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When people don't like their position, move them where it makes them happy or they will leave.
