I have been working at Fisher Communications full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Folks that work at Fisher often refer to it as a "Family" business. Even though the company is a public company, people there are treated as if they are part of the Fisher Family. Many of the broadcast staff have 10-25 years tenure with the company which shows that it is an awesome place to work.

Cons

Among broadcasting in general there is a trend toward being more efficient... That drive toward efficiency has hurt morale in recent years with layoffs which result in changing the way people work. The drive toward efficiency has also eroded the work / life balance - with it currently balancing toward the employer.

I have been working at Fisher Communications

    Pros

The common people were excited to be at work so the energy is good.

Producing is a fascinating job, always new and challenging and interesting.

    Cons

Upper management stifled advancement locked in an business model that killed the industry.

Hours sucked, but that is broadcasting.

More politics than Washington DC, if you paid attention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you can consult the workers, you trust us with everything, we are not idiots. Information only follows with trust. AND, just because someone hasn't done something before doesn't mean they can, ergo hire from with in your walls.

    I worked at Fisher Communications

    Pros

Fisher Plaza is a well-run building. It's located in an OK section of the city for lunch, drinks after work, etc. Working near the Space Needle is cool. Fisher's middle ranks (e.g., IT, HR, facilities, etc.) try to do the right thing, and deal with an issue you raise to the best of their ability.

    Cons

Senior management understands the Internet about as well as a fish understands a bicycle. The communication to the rest of the company is appallingly bad, and conflicts of interest abound.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

TV and radio revenue streams will continue to shrink, due to Internet pressure. Ignore what is happening to newspaper at your own risk.
