I worked at Fisher Investments full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Absolutely nothing. Waste of time.

Cons

Everything. The Woodside location is a joke. If you manage to make it to work without dying or crashing then you have to look for to 10 hours on mundane work that is micromanaged. Trained monkeys are able to do what the Finance people do. Terrible supervisors and managers or EVP or GVP...whatever they are called in the Finance group. You gain no relative experience that you can take away from working here because this is a terribly run company. I guess because I use my brain and don't work as a robot I saw through this joke of a company within weeks. Apparently there are many who enjoy drinking the kool-aid and sucking off the teets of Fisher.

Extremely secretive under the pretense of "security"

I worked at Fisher Investments as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Pretty intelligent folks, nice co-workers, excellent benefits package, nice building in Camas, the help desk is pretty friendly, compensation is very competitive, Portland is right around the corner

    Cons

Cult-ish 'values', unique management style, open layout, cannot even make a doctor's appointment without the entire floor knowing about it, blocked cell phone calls (you heard me), closed internet connection, hardly any online resources are normally available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making a big deal out of irrelevant issues, concentrate on keeping your valuable employees happy without resorting to managing by fear

I have been working at Fisher Investments full-time

    Pros

growth - career path options - cool people - fast paced - exciting industry - intelligent expansion - privately held - the founder (a great businessman and role model) is still working alongside everyone providing leadership as the firm expands

    Cons

it's pretty young, so unless you get hired at a certain role, there aren't a lot of grizzled veterans around trying to pass-on some knowledge.

the firm isn't well known or really understood by outsiders so the prestige of working here is probably lost on others.

the company doesn't really like keeping the lights on late, so, it's not like you can work 14 hour days as much as you want to move ahead quicker. you gotta just go at the pace of the team which prefers a work-life balance, but sometimes that's a buzz-kill if you're really gung ho or on a roll. maybe they have data suggesting it's more productive that way in the long run, idk...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Might need to make the rounds more often. It feels like there aren't any "big" bosses showing how to walk the walk and talk the talk of the company's values.
