Pros

Benefits of working for a large, and recognizable, company. Florida Blue is moving fast into the new healthcare arena and are actively taking steps to stay and maintain competitiveness.

Cons

Working for a big organization, some of the old Blue Cross ways are still there, bureaucratic, like working for the government, strict adherence to rules.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what your are doing, new CEO is a great asset, has a good vision of where we need to go as an organization.

    Pros

The co workers and some of the managers were very pleasant to work with and for.

    Cons

Some managers were not pleasant to work for. They treat their contractors like garbage! I was told on Friday 2/1/2013 that I had a contract extension until July, 6 2013. I came to work that following Monday worked my shift and was not told anything was changing. I received a call from my recruiter that night saying my contract had been terminated immediately! My original contract was not supposed to be up until 02/15/2013. I could have been transferred to a different department because my old position was available, however because I was terminated I can no longer go back to that company for a year.

    Advice to Management

They need to actually give people notice that the contract is ending even if we are just contractors. It also would be nice if they check to see if there are other job opportunities for us before they just terminate us for no reason!

    Pros

Flexibility - my management was very understanding and allowed flexibility in scheduling. However, other managers in the area did not work with their employees and their personal lives
The current CEO seems committed to change - the previous ones were not
On site gym, two cafeterias, free parking

    Cons

More political than other companies where I've worked
There is no time for career development, stretch assignments or training
Promotions happen rarely, no opportunity for growth
Too many meetings where nothing gets done
Some areas very much work in a silo
You have to fight for work/life balance and if you put your life first, that can be the kiss of death for your career
For a health insurance company, the benefits aren't that great
