Pros

The vast majority of employees are very friendly and easy to work with. Upper management really does seem to care and the hospital has a lot of perks and benefits for it's employees.

Cons

It is one of the few independent hospitals left which also means that there is always financial issues having to be addressed. The pay tends to be a bit lower than across the river although the benefits are good. The nurse to patient ratio can be a bit high.

In 19 years of medicine, the worst work environment.

    Pros

Floyd has excellent medical and nursing staff.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the management at Floyd would rather have experienced and skilled nursing and medical staff leave than address concerns that are not in agreement with administration. The non medical administration fails to understand that medicine and nursing are based on relationships between providers and patients, and providers with other providers. They have no true consideration or ethics regarding the treatment of their employees. This is the most back-biting malicious environment I have ever worked in. Most of the people there are good at what they do but the influence of certain people has set the tone for the entire institution. Anywhere with high physician, nursing, and mid-level management turnover clearly has a problem.

    Advice to Management

Administration needs a house-cleaning. People at all levels need to be treated with appropriate respect and deference. If a system is unworkable it should be fixed- making up a bunch of rules isn't going to make the system any more workable. They seem to be oblivious to the fact that patients are far more loyal to their doctors than to the building they work in.

  2. Nice family atmosphere, patients are very well cared for.

The company does a good job of making employees feel like part of the family.

    Cons

Long hours and difficult case loads.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff to provide patients with the care they deserve.
