I worked at Fluid full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Flexible hours, telecommute friendly, friendly coworkers, talented creatives.

Cons

- Used to pride itself on culture, a culture that is all but gone now. Sells itself on a startup culture, but acts like an enterprise.
- Lots of middle-management favoritism with groups/subsets within a single department; becoming a part of the "favorites" felt like trying to break the bind in a rugby scrum.
- A 40 hour week was a pipe dream -- think 60-80 hr/wks end-to-end with comp time rare.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Don't float the faults of one department down the waterfall for the next department to deal with; fix the problem where it starts and equip your employees properly (ie, have a competent sales team who can sell all services equally).
- Upper management should engage more with ALL employees, not just those in choice departments.
- Don't blow smoke; taking outside investment with the claim that it will allow hiring "ahead of the curve" and reduce the need for people to work unpaid overtime hours, and then cutting people because of low revenue is just garbage...
- Regain control of your company from the investment board.

    I worked at Fluid full-time

    Pros

    - flexible work schedule and ability to work from home when needed
    - you'll meet great people

    Cons

    - no transparency
    - lots of favoritism
    - not willing to be more innovative
    - lack of training
    - lack of process
    - unwillingness to sever ties with people who don't fit
    - lack of roadmap/product planning
    - desire to be a startup at 160 employees but failing to truely behave in that way
    - top heavy
    - low pay
    - managers are not treated like managers
    - lack of resources
    - employees are overworked
    - high employee turnover
    - lacks scaleability
    - snacks suck (goldfish, trail mix, and string cheese that's about it)
    - HR doesn't do much. complaints and issues have been brought up and swept under the rug

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - learn to be more fluid
    - trust your employee to do their job.
    - having executives sign off on every little decision isn't scaleable long term.
    - get rid of the deadweight and reevaluate your team bottom up and top down.
    - for a company that has been in business for over 10 years, grow up, and stop trying to sell the company like - you're a start up when you're not. start implementing processes and procedures.
    - focus on the type of culture you want the company to have.
    - invest in your employees.
    - hire more people so you're not over working your current employees.
    - upper management should do more to communicate to employees. i don't think i ever exchanged more than two words with the CEO.

when 10+ employees leave in the span of 3 months shouldn't that be a sign to take a step back and reevaluate how you're doing things?!
