I have been working at Focus Corporation full-time (more than a year)

Pros

You *might* get to work with some excellent professionals who haven't left yet!
A certain degree of autonomony...because no one apparently is in charge.

Cons

Lost a ton of their best staff in the recent years.
Conglomerate of companies with no real plan to merge operations between verticals. Very inefficient.
Severely under-staffed in management.
Complex ownership structure which muddys the waters of how/why/who actually makes decisions.
Extreme workload.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bite the bullet. Bring in some management consultants and square the ship...or you'll sink. Smart people know when to ask for help...

    Pros

Great coworkers, treat employees well. Offer shares as new company - WSP Group. Take alternate Fridays off.

    Cons

Going through a merge and some growing pains. Communication around the changes is lacking a bit, but they are trying and responding to employees as best they can. Change in benefits isn't the greatest, but it's still within industry standard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate a bit more on changes - especially the ones that are viewed as cons.

I have been working at Focus Corporation full-time

    Pros

Above-average benefit package that kicked in right after hire. Three weeks vacation. Free fruit, decent coworkers, "some" good managers.

    Cons

Focus tends to have a "take over the world" mentality. Expand, expand, expand, land as many huge projects as possible, hope they'll magically be able to hire enough quality people from somewhere to do all the work. In the midst of all that, they seemingly forget how to keep their current employees engaged or interested. My story is the same as others I've heard from former Focus employees: it seems to start out well enough but then the storyline gets lost somewhere.

Try it for awhile if you like, but realize you might not (want to) be there for long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a break from all the numbers and "planned growth" long enough to concentrate on maintaining what you have. Get back to valuing quality over quantity. Realize that people aren't leaving in droves for no reason.
