I worked at Follett full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Excellent health care packages
Home office communicates regularly with stores to achieve a baseline knowledge of the industry

Cons

Since textbooks are a dying industry, there is little financial growth and consequently little room for advancement
Plethora of part-time positions available sporadically about 4 months of the year during busy seasons after which you're unlikely to be scheduled more than 10 hours a week
Excessive micromanagement
Home office communicates entirely too much
The store management's outlook ranged from average to frustrated

Doesn't Recommend
Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

Company is in decline, as well as the whole college textbook industry as digital streamlines distribution.

I worked at Follett full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay is average for the position however the work load is much higher. As sales decline company is eliminating positions so workload is shifting and stressful. New management is focused on driving cost out of the business.
Current financial aid rules force students to buy from the school bookstore at inflated prices while many other alternative for lower cost materials exist.

    Cons

Although the company indicates they care about the education of college students, they are only focused on their bottom line. They want to implement programs that limit student choices to textbook purchasing. They are trying to add textbook costs to tuition so students have no choice but to use Follett supplied materials. Amazon, Chegg and Bookrenters are always cheaper. US Government needs to allow students to use financial aid to buy from Amazon and others resulting in cheaper costs to the student.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
