I have been working at Ford Motor Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great product and overall a good place to work if you are a follower. If you have a good education and are a motivated individual with leadership abilities this is not the place for you unless you don't mind stepping over bodies to achieve your goals. Creativity and common sense are accepted only if attuned to an upper manager's career ambitions. The motto is stay under the radar, do not show off and you will retire from this company. If you want to promote the company and like to see results you will be subjected to prejudice and ultimately will be moved or worse terminated or separated.

    Cons

Too many management layers of deeply rooted career oriented (at any cost) individuals. Very little business acumen and a protectionist environment. WIll ultimately be destined to failure as a company. History tends to repeat itself. Do not be fooled by the statements of Senior Management. Despite their good intention the leadership is oblivious to the damage that these layers are inflicting to the Company by their inaction and class protectionism. The vision is there and would work, unfortunately it lacks the will to deal with these problems. Here is the best analogy: The mind is willing but the body cannot support it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be extremely careful as the environment is of an ambiguous nature. Mid to upper management interested in just retaining a career level or moving forward with utter and complete disregard for Company interests. If I would have to characterize the individual personalities in mid to upper management I would rank these folks as a "C". C's tend to hire "D" or "E" individuals that will not be capable of successfully threaten or uproot their careers. Not a place to thrive or display a go getter attitude. I would look to other manufactures. Unfortunately the dead wood managers that have plagued the American OEM's are still embedded and will continue to erode the company from within.
If the Senior Management will ever wake up and deal with these issues I strongly believe that the Company would be successful beyond their dreams. They fixed the product vision (not the quality yet although huge strides) now they must fix the personnel issues.
