Pros

Large company with a lot of potentials, like a carrot hanging in front of your head, but hard to reach.

Cons

Hard to get promotion. Every manager is working on their advancement, does not care about his/her employee's developement

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great work/life balance, organizational hierarchy slow to change

I have been working at Ford Motor Company

    Pros

    Flexible work/life balance
    Salary is fair
    Good benefits
Nice to work without constant threat of workforce reduction

    Cons

Lack of diversity of experience - many come into Ford and spend careers here, so diversity of thought and experience outside the company does not seem valued
Culture does not embrace constructive criticism as I have experienced other places
Career progression (heavy layer of middle managers) and pace of change are slow. Very risk averse, and change mainly occurs in increments.
Management seems to value those with the ability to "hold their turf" vs being the best and the brightest
Top down, hierarchical thinking is ingrained. Visionary, entrepreneurial attitude and the ability to make sound decisions independent of management approval does not seem valued.
Resourcing seems to be an issue - focus on placing people in a role vs finding the best person for the job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shake off the hierarchical thinking and see your employees for the knowledge, skills and ideas they bring to the table vs dismissing their contributions because of where they sit on an org chart. Focus less on furthering your own career and more on developing those you lead.
