Former Employee - Administrative Specialist in Detroit, MI

I worked at Ford Motor full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Large corporation that carries great benefits and salaries, is a global thinking, green conscience, and constantly changing company. I would love nothing better than to work for them again, stay there until I couldn't work anymore.

Cons

The only cons for Ford Motor Company is that they fluctuate due to the economy, this is something that they cannot control.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep moving in the direction that you are, it is wonderful to see you coming back so strong after such a terrible downswing. I would love to see more good women advance in what has always been a "good ole boy" company.

I worked at Ford Motor as a contractor for more than 8 years

    Pros

Structure. You know your job, your position as an employee and what is expected. There is a development process, checks, reviews and communication. The Java Center of Excellence, Web Center of Excellence and Creative Design and Usability teams are great examples of technology leaders inside the enterprise. All engineers should have this kind of experience and take what it has to offer in structure.

    Cons

If you are looking for bleeding edge in J2EE development, this ain't it. Much of the project work tends to be monotonous. Engineers tend to be treated as interchangeable parts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open up the network to BYO (bring your own) devices. The effort to protect the network from rouge devices might not be worth the innovation you are preventing. Make it easier for business owners to use internal services instead of shoveling cash to vendors.

I worked at Ford Motor full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great opportunities to work in a variety of finance functions that increases the level and type of experience gained. Finance jobs are very secure that you almost have to try to get fired. The salary and benefits offered are competitive. The company now has great products and offers opportunities to learn about them first hand.

    Cons

Career advancement is slow and dis highly dependent upon your management's willingness to fight for you. Promotions are not always based on performance and management's performance should be dependent on their actual ability to manage their people, not just their finance abilities. Workload can be intense depending upon the job and the style of management in that area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to new ideas and follow through on implimenting change. Even though many changes have been made, they do not filter from the CEO down to lower levels. Managements performance should be measured on their management skills, not just their own performance or results. This would give them the motivation to help develop their employees which would help Ford greatly.
