I have been working at FortisBC full-time

Pros

Work/life balance is great, vacation provisions are pretty generous. Employees are treated with a high degree of respect and cooperate together well. Strong company in a industry not likely to go away or shift any-time soon.

Cons

Lack of telecommuting options despite technology being in place.

Advice to Management

Add telecommuting as one of the "perks" to the job. Have a few days set aside in training where you can review how the teams you interact with do their jobs. This might be beneficial at the 3-6 month mark so you can see how your work impacts other teams and perhaps highlight inefficiencies in current processes.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

*Sincere commitment to investing in its employees *Extremely collaborative and positive working environment *A la carte style health/insurance benefits (opt out of certain features and get credit/compensation, where desired) *Good opportunities to learn all aspects of the utility business *Opportunities to shift jobs functionally or regionally within the company--across electric and gas divisions

    Cons

*Located in Surrey, B.C. which is a stressful commute from Vancouver *No participation in local transportation programs or support for those who must commute long distances to get to work *Compensation is not competitive

    Advice to Management

There should be some support for those employees who must commute long distances to get to work, ie. participate in Metro Vancouver's Translink program or provide a small subsidy for employees that carpool to work over longer distances
