A good company, but favourable only to employees who spend 15-20+ years in FW

I have been working at Foster Wheeler Energy

    Pros

    Good System
Few good & far talented employees
    Above average company benefits
Communication to employees improved a lot in last few months!

    Cons

    - Lack of motivation among many employees
    - Very limited potential for individual employee to excel
    - No opportunity available for new staff
    - All good roles available only to long term staff (although they are good, efforts from them are minimal!)
    - No 'Focus' on end objectives - instead spend more time to do things FW way!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Give a chance to new recruits (well experienced professionals) - who will do their best to prove themselves in your company!
-Don't rely on your existing middle management. Try new faces to bring the real change.
-SAI is good, but don't just bring the old good practices which are not so good in the new business scenerio!
-Business winning to be more focussed. Hire managers from your competitors to start with!

Some great individuals undermined by a backwards corporate culture

I worked at Foster Wheeler Energy

    Pros

    Flexible working - 1 flexday a month
    Variety of projects
    Some excellent individuals
Tendancy toward long service which speaks for itself

    Cons

Some really old fashioned attitudes with in middle and senior management, a culture of 'old boys network' means that the best person doesn't always get the appropriate internal recognition. Tendency toward toxic internal politics can make life frustrating. Operates a blame culture which means senior managers often dodge making decicions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good hard look at the capabilities of your middle and senior management. Be aware that you have lost some of your best and brightest simply because they have fallen foul of personal politics - Yes Troy, I mean you. Your personal likes and dislikes and your management style of communicating your displeasure is incredibly corrosive. In the end good people have no problem finding work elsewhere and you are left with mediocrity.
