Walk the walk and don't just talk the talk

    Pros

Opportunity to get international exposure and job opportunities as this is a truly global organisation. The family share ownership level brings some issues on decision making on a frequent basis particularly by those holding executive responsibilities.

    Cons

Senior management "talk the talk", but do not necessarily "walk the walk" when it comes to delivering on the company's indicated core values. A number of middle level staff, particularly in the HR function, are what I would best describe as "corporate monkeys" - whatever the company (from the USA) says must be right , so just accept it sort of approach - this lacks some independent thinking by them and turns them into a fully blown risk management function in all reality - total lack of empathy with the employee's position on issues frequently seen in action.

    Pros

Some great people, RRSP pension matching, they promote from within

    Cons

Pay is not great, lot of favouritism with managers, when they promote from within your raise not commensurate with increase in responsibilities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talented people are leaving because you aren't paying what they're worth. You've got to pay top dollar or at least competitive wages to keep talent.
