Cons

low starting pay, many jobs are temporary

Advice to Management

I don't have a lot of advice for change, the two cons I listed are inherent in the research business.

Great for scientists and lab workers. Disappointing for all other.

    Pros

Every review has valid points and you'll notice a pattern that folks who work directly with science give good review in general and all others are dissatisfied. So if you are a scientist or a lab support person, do whatever you can to work at this prestigious institution. Admin, IT, marketing, etc.? Better look else where. I write this as a person with over 5 years of experience working in a non-scientific role.

    PROS:
    1) Prestige of working for a world class research institution.
    2) New-ish buildings and wonderful location.
    3) Generous retirement benefit.

    Cons

    1) Low pay.
    2) Palace intrigue.
    3) Inconsistent IT resource and support.
    4) Funding challenges (which means job security).
    5) Lack of advancement.

  2. Collaborative, purposeful and thriving research community

    Pros

One of the top two cancer research centers on the West coast, this non-profit research institution is integrated with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which receives patients from around the Pacific Northwest and colleborates closely with the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital. Even the architecture is designed to promote collaboration. Research includes basic, immunology (esp. graft vs. host), clinical, infectious disease (VIDI), epidemiology and public health. On-site seminars give it a true learning environment feel, as do seminars on bioinformatics and management for employees.

    Cons

Not really specific to this institution, but government cuts to funding have really made it more difficult to thrive in a primarily academic institution.
