I worked at Freddie Mac full-time

    Pros

There are plenty of smart people at Freddie. There are many avenues for one to increase knowledge, skills, and gain valuable experience. You just have to take advantage of the opportunities (Mentoring program, Rising Leaders, training, etc.). If you work hard and are focused on excellence and improving your career, then Freddie is good for that. Outside firms seem to view Freddie's employees favorably, based on the seemingly endless number of people that have moved on to other firms.

    Cons

Your upside at the company may be capped. If you excel, deliver, and gain experience there may be a point where you outpace your compensation growth. It'll be that way at most companies, so you have to decide when you it is time to move outside of Freddie to capitalize and receive the market value of your abilities. There is uncertainty as to what the US Gov will do with Freddie and Fannie, so there is long-term uncertainty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove the layers of bureaucracy. Paralysis by analysis is alive and well. Management needs to get employees to move things along, instead of having tons of pointless meetings with no decision as an outcome of the meetings.
