Unique and fun brand, not a company to grow with.

I worked at Free People part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The 40% discount at Free People, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters plus other occasional sales perks. It is a young, creative company and that can involve fun store projects and events. The company prides itself on a close store/client relationship so you will learn how to give the best customer service and how to connect with your customers.

Cons

Free People does a bad job at promoting within. They are more apt to hire outside of the company which is very frustrating to those that have paid their dues. There is favoritism; if the district manager doesn't like you, you have no chance in being promoted. The pay is lower than it should be; you'll work hard trying to make sales, but there is little incentive because there is no commission involved.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote within and don't have favorites. Leave the personal drama at home when you come to work.

I have been working at Free People full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Interesting style. Inspirational culture. Fun clothes.

    Cons

Boring!!! If you're in a management position prepare to spend 9 hours a day patting down hangers and refolding the same pile of clothing 100 times!
Horrible upper management! Very Selfish and once they have a plan for you, there is no way to change their minds. Zero help with upward movement. Zero coaching or feedback to help advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more helpful. Stop looking at people as numbers and start caring about their growth. There will be a lot less turn over!

    Pros

The discount! Also, a lot of fun girls work there. It is a fun and creative environment to work in.

    Cons

The pay! It is the worst! You don't work on commission, but they want you to sell like you do. Sales associates do not receive any financial reward when sales goals are made, but management does- ridiculous because the sales associates are making all the sales!
