Pros

They hire new engineers out of school and give them opportunity to start their career.

Cons

This applies only for Phelps Dodge (before the buy out)
1. Insane management that mentally torments employees
2. Employees are forced to put in illegal long hours daily
3. Managers threaten and scream (really loud) at the employees
4. Managers snoop on the private life of the employees and use that to punish them at work
5. Incompetent management that takes lots of time off during the day for their private chores

Advice to Management

There are many people who left Phelps Dodge because of the obstruction at work. Even HR did not help us. You must have higher power to control those tyrants.

    Pros

The office in downtown Phoenix is gorgeous. Even though the company has thousands employees around the world, there's an interesting sense that all are united as a singular team. This is especially true within MIS working with remote sites.

    Cons

Compensation within MIS could be better. As an intern, you get some perks like reimbursement for public transportation, but registration in these and other programs takes forever.

    Advice to Management

Compensation within MIS could be better. For such a large company, it would be nice to hear more internal updates on progress besides shareholder calls.

    Pros

I worked as an intern for a summer and found that the company tries very hard to impress. The money is good, lots of social events, and offers lots of freedom. I recommend at least doing an internship to gauge how you like the work.

    Cons

I did not accept a full-time job mainly based on the location. You will likely be placed in a very small town somewhere in the middle of the desert. I personally did not see myself working there long-term.

    Advice to Management

The social events and good compensation are sure to retain those who are interested in the mining industry. Good job.
