I have been working at Fry's Food

Pros

Health care is one of the best, it has a union, and I get good wages.

Cons

Sometimes there is favortism and the customers can get rude.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find better ways to reduce the favortism within the stores it really is annoying and not fair to those who work hard.

I have been working at Fry's Food part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Paid vacation and benefits after one year of employment, even if you're only part time. CEO is a very friendly, socialable person who seems to really care about employees.

    Cons

Most managers under-value their employees. Randomly transfered to another store with no notification. Loss of senority and new schedule that does not work for me. I'm quitting because of this. Pay rate sucks, raises are based on hours worked with company, 1000+ hours before your first raise and its only 25 cents/hr. If you choose this company, do not work deli, always understaffed and have a large work load, not worth the pay you make.

Poverty wages, minimal benefits, and no room for growth.

    I worked at Fry's Food

    Pros

The job itself requires little brainpower and you'll never have to take work home with you. Senior management is mostly professional, albeit unfriendly. Unless you steal, termination is unlikely due to union rules.

    Cons

In general, co-workers are either high school students or folks with little ambition and education. Front-end managers (mostly 20-25 year olds and high school drop-outs) are unprofessional and petty. The current union contract is useless at best. The company expects to be your top priority, but at $7.50 hourly with minuscule raises, no holiday pay, and meager benefits it's difficult to justify. Healthy work/life balance and higher education is not promoted or encouraged. You are hired as an "all-purpose clerk" which basically translates to "do whatever you're told no matter how disgusting". Every employee is viewed as a potential thief. If you are an employee and you want a cup of water, you must pay 27 cents for it because Fry's cannot afford to give away the plastic cup except to its customers. Seriously. The employee is not treated as a person with needs and desires. The employee is a commodity to be used to increase the bottom line. Period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In your race to pay your stockholders, you forgot about your slogan "Our People are Great!". Maybe your stockholders are great, but your employees are underpaid, discouraged, disgruntled, and hate their jobs. Front-end management included. Encourage ambition and personal growth, pay fair wages, and respect your employees as humans and most of your problems are solved.
