I worked at Fund for the Public Interest (less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing leadership experience directing an office of 10-30 people (depending on location and city)
    Meet amazing, idealistic people
Feel like you're making a difference in the issues that you care about

    Cons

70-80 hours of work 6 days a week
Paid lower than minimum wage because of your salary
Constantly have to fire people, you feel like you're using human beings as if they were only fundraising robots
    You definitely burn yourself out
Hard to maintain friendships and relationships outside of the office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job trying to treat the human beings that are on your staff in a way that actually adheres to the idealistic vision you have for the world. Don't treat people like disposable trash.
