I have been working at Future Electronics full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Working with newest hw before it's released on the market. Customers are some of the biggest names in the world. Freedom to contribute ideas on products and improve them. Colleagues are enthusiastic about technology. Senior management, company culture and career oportunities.

Cons

Sometimes people will get hired because of a desperate need to hire people; this ruins some of the existing social chemistry. Sometimes the people that get hired get treated better than current [deserving] employees; this discussion does go into a grey area and it's something that happens in a lot of companies.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company management is going through a continuous learning cycle, which will help it make better decisions about hiring and retaining the employees that it needs. Just don't rush the hiring part.

Great opportunity to learn and progress

    Pros

Big company with many opportunities IF you work for it. This is not a place you will ever stare at the clock bored and wondering what to do next. Lots to learn in the semiconductor industry as well as led lighting, renewable energy, rf and wireless and other focus segments. You are working in a team, but success comes to self starters that are motivated. HR does a good job to have free ice cream on Fridays in the summer, free coffee and tea always available, as well as many themed free food days such as apple pie and ice cream in the fall or iced coffee days. Cafe is really good. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Depending on your job it can be difficult to keep up. Lots going on at one time. The company is entrepreneurial, but people have made mistakes so there are SOP's in place to prevent mistakes, but that can also limit possibilities to the point where some people have given up trying new things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Responsibility has been driven to the top forcing daily activities to take longer than they should while leaving employees feeling unmotivated.

I worked at Future Electronics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great salary if you can get top paying accounts in sales.
Friendly people in general. Good cafeteria.
    In office gym.
Great place to learn (the hard way though)
Some career advancement opportunity (reservations on this point)
    Excellent but expensive benefits package.

    Cons

Management asked to micro manage way too much.
This leads to very depressed employee morale, people are overworked from all the forms they need to fill out, real work that generates results and dollars is somewhat neglected due to this aspect.

A very stressful environment mainly due to bully style management. Threats are normal. It's as though management lacks creativity on how to stimulate their employees and resorts to the same tactics by cutting employee salaries. Most rely heavily on their commission cheques and this management sees it fit to penalize employees for not meeting unrealistic quotas by cutting into their earnings some more. Sad.

Training isn't the norm. Most of those who gain success learn on the fly and from colleagues.
Management comes up with very poor business practises. There's a definite lack of direction as all departments never seem to work together. There's really no synergy between important decision makers.

Processes are broken and completely outdated. The workload is difficult because of this. To do anything, you need to follow it through way too many departments. This leads to many conversations which can result into confrontations, this seems to happen on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Potential to make Future Electronics a world class organization is very achievable.

    Take the following three steps:
    1. Stop all the micro-managing and focus your energy on creating a well defined procedural guide so that everyone has a reference point to know how to do their job.
    2. Increase training in the correct aspects of sales. Focus on time/email management, email/phone etiquette and developing active listening skills.
    3. Listen to your people, put yourselves in their shoes and really hear them out. There's a ton of highly intelligent people and their ideas are under-utilized.

Please realize that the potential is enormous, and if managed differently it would likely lead to different results. Funny that the first time I ever heard this expression is @ Future Electronics: "Crazy is doing things the same way over and over again and expecting different results" So... if you can't follow your own advice with the management style, then... enough said.

    Thank you.
