I worked at Futurewei Technologies full-time (more than a year)

Pros

A different experience compared to most companies. Get to work with people from other cultures and regions. Focus on new technologies and areas, as well as international markets.

Cons

Too much centralized control by overseas HQ group. Very cumbersome internal approval processes, especially for administrative tasks and management. This process overhead consumes significant amount of time and effort for most employees, due to the process-heavy nature of the company. HR and admin staff not up to par with industry in terms of service and response times.

    Pros

Opportunity to travel and play ping pong

    Cons

All what they want is your "expert" knowledge from Silicon Valley tech companies to feed their scarce of technology needed to build up a competing product. You will be quickly assessed for your value against the rate of 1:6.3 (USD vs RMB). If you are found not to have much expertise they want or they think you are a kind of "fake" expert, you may be "buried" quickly after you are "dug up" from your previous company. No long term things here as they don't want to invest and innovate much but just copy and quick return. The company has no chance to success here because of their China background and the way doing business untrusted by US government. Also their bad reputation may pollute your resume a bit if with them too long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No much advice to the management who does nothing wrong but the nature of the company, the immanent and inherited culture developed the freakish ecosystem of the company's environment. They make a use of so called "human wave tactics" and low cost labor to success but failed in US as the way to judge and use employees from American companies as from Chinese business. Basically they don't know how to run American business at all.

Just like a start-up, Huawei is not for everyone.

I have been working at Futurewei Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

/This company is not driven by Wall Street. They will invest in long-term projects. Like Cisco they were not in the cellular networking business, after a 7 year struggle. The became Number one in the world. Financially,it may be more rewardingto work for a start-up, But in terms of gaining valuable experience, Huawei has been fantastic.

    Cons

Unless you can understand Chinese, you will not be in the inner circle.
Everything is made in China, including all decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Localize. Fururewei is supposed to be a US legal entity.
