Current Employee - Route Sales Representative in Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Current Employee - Route Sales Representative in Wisconsin Rapids, WI

I have been working at G&K Services full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Pay is Great and you earn every penny! RSRs are the front line contact to the customer. A strong work ethic and Great Service tends to be well received. That along with strong customer relationships will help create opportunity to grow the route and build strong returns in commissions.

Cons

Long hours, very physical work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help you RSR's balance their careers with their home life. This could be achieved by route consolidations and more RSRs in the field on the branch level. The best RSR's tend to be home less and at work more. Helping them achieve this balance will certainly increase department
 moral.

I worked at G&K Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Top of the line product and service in the uniform/industrial laundry business.

    Cons

They are constantly losing to Cintas or Aramark, largely due to name recognition and lower initial pricepoint of the former, and the later's ability to provide a line of porducts that G&K is not interested in carrying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As unique as your industry may be, it is almost always likely to benefit from a fresh set of eyes and a fresh perspective, regardless of the years of expert experience management may have.

I have been working at G&K Services full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fellowship with other RSR's (when you are all getting the shaft, you have a common interest)

Short work days if you can arrange it (which is rarely)

Decent starting salary unless your work load is doubled

Actually not a lot of Pro's available, there was just a 20 word minimum here and I was trying to grasp for at least something good to say

    Cons

Long hours that only get longer especially if you are commissioned (The more you work the more you earn, but ignore the fact that we will lower prices in an attempt to keep a customer from quitting their service and you'll take it on the back end)

Longer hours for the salaried drivers (I thought they were 'non-exempt' and got overtime... instead they get a flat salary and are expected to put in 60 hours a week constantly. Some of them need to call the Department of Labor or DOT to investigate this)

Having to constantly explain billing changes to customers

Don't expect to be paid for additional workloads

Don't expect to be paid for the long hours they like to pile on you

Expect to get excuses for why you aren't being paid

Expect to get excuses of how the company is losing money and that 'YOU' are expected to correct that and gain more business so that upper management can impress the shareholders and get their bonuses

In serious need of being unionized by the Teamsters just so the drivers can start having a fair treatment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit giving excuses

Pay your people what you promise them and for the work they do; stop the excuses and quit cutting their pay to make YOUR bonuses

Keep your promises to the workers AND the customers. Both these groups are the ones that are responsible for the business continuing to exist and hopefully grow

If a customer is unhappy about how poor their service has become because someone has decided to cut corners to 'save money', just telling them 'You have a contract' is not a solution AND STOP BLAMING THE RSR's for the unhappy customers. Majority of the customers love their drivers and trust the work they do, but are seriously disillusioned with the company itself

If employees have large workloads or long hours, see they are compensated for them and stop piling more work on of giving excuses of how they are supposed to be doing that much work or even more
