It's a good place to work in a very bad economy.

General Factory (Current Employee)
Blue Island, IL

I have been working at G & W Electric Company

ProsSteady employment with overtime available if wanted. Not a bad place to work. If you do your job and are to work on time management leaves you alone. Quarterly bonuses are something to look forward to.

Cons1. Large Hispanic workforce. Very nice people to work with but they will speak Spanish every chance they get. It's very hard to learn a job from someone that has a poor command of the english language. Just from a safety standpoint management should make english the only language to be spoken in the factory.
2. G&Ws starting pay is VERY low. The company is clearly taking advantage of the bad economy and the large unemployed workforce.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease address number 1 and number 2 above. If the economy improves after the next presidential election (as I believe it will) you will lose a lot of good employees looking for better wages and benefits. Quarterly bonuses are nice but they don't make up for the low wages.

Mechanical engineers are data pushers

Mechanical Engineer (Former Employee)
Alsip, IL

I worked at G & W Electric Company

Pros: Support from other engineers, when they find time (everyone is super busy) Database makes new designs a little simpler Reviews are… Cons: Management is super cheap. They will paint rusty office furniture to keep from buying new stuff. They also took away award pizza lunches… Advice to Senior Management: Someone needs to go into the bottom depths of day to day operations and realize the way they are going things doesn't work,… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
