I have been working at GE Oil & Gas full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

GE has a strong compliance culture including product regulatory compliance, HR compliance and process compliance. This provides a predictable environment in which to work. GE also focuses on growth industries, so Oil & Gas is expanding and attracting new and great talent both from inside other GE businesses and from external sources as well.

Cons

It is highly competitive, both to be selected and afterward for positions such as Master Black Belts and Executive-Band positions. GE is focused on results and growth, so if you are in a business that is floudering, expect a reorganization or for the business to be sold. You MUST preemptively manage your own career.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that simplification efforts simplify work for the P&Ls. Often, projects simplify the ability to monitor progress by the top-level leaders, but complicate the business operation.

I have been working at GE Oil & Gas full-time

    Pros

Great career prospects. Masterclass in leadership building. Best company to learn how to sell an idea. How to take your ideas through to fruition. Great place to learn people skills. Truly cross functional.

    Cons

Bureaucracy, and matrices make it hard to move fast. Getting ahead depends to a large degree on how you work the system and navigate the matrix. Raw smarts has little to do with that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplification and fastworks have to happen at every level. Create startups within the company and change how people are measured.
