Current Employee - Software Engineer in Toronto, ON (Canada)
Current Employee - Software Engineer in Toronto, ON (Canada)

I have been working at GE full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

They don't have competitive salary, but acceptable. The other benefits are stock + pension plan. You have to spend many years working here to get good pay by increasing salary 3% per year. Many legacy products are still under development and maintenance, so most likely you will use some technics out-of-update.

Cons

Good company culture, work-life balance is much depending on your profession behavior. Too many issues are there all the time, you adjust work-life balance if nobody pushing you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The employee quality is getting worst and worst due to less competitive env. Employees having competitive skills most likely go for a higher salary, the others working there are most 40+ to 60 years old. Too many managers, technical leaders ,etc, many of these peoples are not worthy of their paid, especially looking at what they are contributing. Overall it is a good place to stay for your retirement.

I have been working at GE full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flex Time
    Ownership
    You own your projects
    Great environment and colleagues
    Very ethical

    Cons

    No succession plans
Not the best pay in the market
Work very dependant on the US
    Very difficult to grow fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to focus more on the soft skills of the people. People getting into a managerial position should already have the necessary competences to be in that position. It´s more difficult to train a person already in the position. Promotions do not need to be strictly related to seniority (time) but to qualifications.
