I worked at GNC part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great groups of people to work with at the store level
    Good discount
    Flexible hours
    Fun industry to work in
Customers are friendly and the company truly tries to serve them

    Cons

Upper management has no idea what goes on in the stores other than what their data reports
Sales expectations can be overwhelming at times
Commissioned items and items that you are required to sell are completely different things, making it hard to make a decent paycheck without your sales numbers being awful
Certain stores get little to no customer traffic, making the job very boring at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the upper management (Above RSD) get into the stores more often to see what the sales culture is really like. Have them spend a day trying to meet their own sales goals to see if they're on par or not. Give associates the ability to further take care of their customers and truly make sales (rather than just play knowledgeable cashier).

I worked at GNC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Commission based - you can somewhat control your paycheck
Good if you work well alone (meaning no other employees but obviously a lot of customers)

    Cons

Commission based - not guaranteed...and they don't want you to promote the items you make commission on (not their brand).
The company says they are only concerned with customer service, but really they want you to be a pushy sales person and only sell their brand. If you don't sell certain amounts of their brand you get called out and most likely fired if it is a regular thing...so why they sell other brands in the first place, I'm not sure (and no, this was never an issue for me, just an annoying observation).
It seems like everyone is looking for a reason to fire people here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more hours for store employees if you expect the store to be 200% on a daily basis (tasks, constant conference calls, shipment, customer service, training, etc).
