I worked at GNC part-time (less than a year)

Pros

30% employee discount, gain insight to the world of nutritional supplementation, flexible schedule, great job for people who like small talk with strangers, gain entry level sales knowledge, great commissions on certain product sales, management is hands off if you deliver numbers, great relationship with store manager

Cons

Expect unrealistic numbers on products customers don't want, base pay minimum for part time, long periods of being alone and busy work, commission extremely low, if existent, on products that are expected to be sold, had the feeling upper management was willing to throw part time employees under the bus, would never work there full time

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on positive interactions with customers for return shoppers rather than one VP sale out the door, have RSDs spend more hours with sales reps selling instead of just discussing numbers, pay the employees for the products you ask them to sell, selling $26 dollar bags of impotent chews is immoral

I worked at GNC part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Hours flexible to work with school schedule, commission, opportunity to work at other stores to pick up more hours

    Cons

District Management can sometimes be overbearing. One week they will try to promote you (store manager after 2 months on the job) and the next week they will tell you if your numbers do not improve you'll be fired. I watched many people take the promotion before they were ready and get axed a month later when the store fails. It will all depend on what management you have for your region.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't punish people just because they aren't selling exactly what you want them to. I sold 3x the dollar amount for the store than other "better employees." These employees will avoid taking customers they do not think they can sell P3's too, and the customer service suffers because these employees avoid customers.
