Current Employee - Heat Transfer Production Support in Manhattan, KS

I have been working at GTM Sportswear full-time for less than a year

Pros

There are a few discounts available on the merchandise produced by the company. They would regularly hold "pot luck" style dinners for the holidays. There are local perks in the surrounding areas for discounts at some restaurants and even a free gym membership for all employees. They offer health benefits for full-time employees as well as a retirement package.

Cons

The company is progressive in the areas of employee perks and healthcare, but very regressive in the day to day treatment of production workers. The company is very evenly split between the professional jobs and the production jobs. Production work at GTM is nothing shy of a sweat shop. The biggest con I would say is the fact that your immediate shift leader will most likely be someone who is under-qualified to lead people and is simply in that position based on tenure and not ability. This makes for a depressing work environment where employees constantly feel inferior to leaders who talk down to employees and from my experience are VERY unprofessional.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on the work environment of your production workers. They are the ones on the grind allowing the business to have product moving out to fill orders. These workers are the backbone of your organization. There is too much emphasis on the net sales numbers at the end of each month. Focus more on the employee satisfaction and figure out why you have such a high turnover rate and worry less about the green in the bank account.

I have been working at GTM Sportswear full-time for more than a year

    Pros

GTM has A LOT of potential. They have a good hold on their market and if they do things correctly, will continue to grow and be very successful. They are located in Manhattan, KS which is a great place to live.

    Cons

Management. GTM has a habit of hiring managers from within the company, sometimes employees that have worked at GTM for 5+ years or more and haven't had the opportunity to experience management at multiple companies. The result is micro-managing and poor management all around. The executive team has their hands in too many things, making decisions that the others in the company with specific experience should be making. In my time here I have seen a lot of employee turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower your employees more often and consider the onions of ALL employees, including interns and entry level employees. You never know where your next big idea is going to come from.
