Pros

Lots of creative freedom is here, in regards to project details. The community feedback is great, and not something you see at a typical company. The company is still small in size as of this writing, although it doesn't feel or act very small. You get all the benefits and support of a larger company, but your team remains very small and focused. The knowledge sharing here is amazing as well, and everyone who enters leaves with a better skill set than when they came, making it great for advancing an individual career.

Cons

There's not much career advancement here. Management manages, and everyone else does specific task work. Part of this is due to the company size, but there's simply no opportunities here. If you're looking to move up your career towards a management / leader track, you'd want to look elsewhere. Another major downside is that Gaia has a hard time swallowing the Agile pill. They seem very scared of letting projects run whatever course the nature of the project dictates. As a result, there's still a ton of waterfall process here, without necessarily any indication this will be evolving / changing with time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to put more trust and accountability into the low level positions. They were hired to be great developers, artists, and UI people, but are rarely given the tools to succeed in those roles.

I have been working at Gaia Interactive as an intern (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The best reasons WERE that this site had everything! Amazing members that came to hangout online. Awesome responsive staff that listened to their community. There were only a few special items that came out every once in a while which is what made them SPECIAL. The games use to stay up to date, and there were always contests and things to do!

    Cons

The old gaia is dead. You cannot "enjoy" the site without spending hundreds of actually cash. If you are a new member, there are no ways any longer for you to work hard and get enough gold for any item you would really like. The games haven't been updated in YEARS. And new sloppy items are pumped out like machines. The staff are all but hiding away and ignore the thousands of posts in the Suggestions/Complaint threads that the members of the community take the time to write. I have watched this site rapidly decline and it is really sad to see...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get new management. Fire yourselves, or start to listen. Your oldest members ARE leaving. I just deleted over 200 people of my friends like that have not gotten on since 2006-2012. Stop caring about numbers and statistics, or there will be no numbers or statistics for you to fret about within the next few years.

    Pros

Free lunch, and the friendly team.

    Cons

The management, and the direction the company is heading.

The Gaia Online community read this site, I've seen it on the Gaia Forums.
If you're reading this, please, stop buying Gaia cash. The sooner the money coming in drops, the sooner Gary and his goons are going to leave, and more chance will be had of rescuing the site in some form.

Mike was innovative, he worked with us one on one, talked through ideas that the office thought the community would enjoy.
That left with him. He was the kindest, most realistic, down to earth employer I've ever had.

Gary is taking your money. When that slows down, he will leave. Check his previous companies on LinkedIn. Until then, the site will crumble.
He doesn't listen to ideas and has his own set. I'm just hoping he leaves while there's still a community left to work with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the community, and they will gladly buy into a site they enjoy spending time on, and they will stay for the long run.

Now, you're making them miserable, and it's only a matter of time before they stop buying and go somewhere that treats them better.
