Pros

Work environment allows for freedom and self directed work. Must be a self starter and have good technical skills to succeed. Would do it again.

Cons

Limited career path. Company focuses on individual strength, but does not necessarily help develop and strengthen the entire potential of the individual.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an open mind when considering the talents of individuals compared to their work load. Many people have capabilities beyond test scores.

All in all, not a bad place to be

    Pros

Flexibility in scheduling, engaged and supportive coworkers, management respects and encourages honest feedback, fascinating and challenging work with many opportunities to collaborate.

    Cons

Not many. Sometimes a little too much leeway in defining one's role, pay is decent, but doesn't really match the premium rates the company charges to clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Execute on your decisions. Transitions are like band-aids, they should be pulled of quickly and definitively. More honesty around financial projections would also be beneficial.

    Weird Policies

    I worked at Gallup

    Pros

Hard to think of. Sometimes a fun place. You don't have to work very hard because it's easy to "pretend you are busy" as long as your are connected with the right people internally.

    Cons

    Some really strange policies.

    - No corporate card for consultants??? Come on, how are 20 somethings supposed to afford thousands per month in flights and expenses!!?? Especially when the salaries are terrible.

    - Absolutely horrible expense reimbursement. 2 weeks to get your money back? And that's the best case scenario if everything doesn't get rejected by a way too nit picky internal audit team.

    - Unlimited vacation policy - yeah right. Complete lip service.

    - You can't cash out of the stock plan even if you need the money to pay for your mortgage. Have your employees pour their life savings into your stock and then don't let them cash out when they need it. Some restrictions on cashing out make sense, but the inability to take anything out until Clifton decides it's okay is just wrong.

    - Benefits are terrible. Gallup is really proud to have declining healthcare costs. Obviously you'll have that when you have the world's cheapest insurance plan and your employees have to pay thousands out of pocket to go to the doctor for simple things.

    - People doing the same job with the same title can be paid 10's of thousands of dollars differently. And then you can be fired for talking about your pay.

    - The biggest voo doo trick - the principals do all the work and are the real consultants, but the partners get all the credit. David Copperfield style!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up. You really think all the employees buy into this? This company is run to pad the pockets of the people at the top. You can get away with this type of stuff in a $50MM or $100MM company - but now you're $300MM trying to get to $500MM. The policies need to evolve and so does the management team.
