Retail is much harder than people think, but can be rewarding if you really like people

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) Baltimore, MD

Prosto learn about gaming, to be involved with gaming, for the opportunity to work with other gamers, employee discount, employees can borrow games, great opportunity to build people skills and customer service skills, opportunities to help wide array of customers (not just nerdy gamers anymore), from families to grandparents to kids (DON'T be a gamer snob and continuously put down Wii etc games, there's no room for you in Gamestop anymore, gaming has changed too much)

ConsPoor pay, risk of being robbed, actually fairly stressful, VERY detail-oriented - need to be very on top of your work, store operations are very important, fairly inconsistent scheduling, relatively poor communications from Store Mgmt and District Management (but this varies by individual), somewhat unreasonable pressure to hit subscriptions and reservations targets without any incentive - there are NO commissions at Gamestop

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep all levels of store employees informed, be realistic about goals, provide better sales tools and training, provide more regular recognition, promote from within, stop pressuring about hitting reservation and subscriptions targets unless you are prepared to offer better sales tools and some level of incentives that are realistically obtainable

Good part time job for students, but don't expect a career.

Senior Game Advisor (Former Employee) Houston, TX

    I worked at GameStop

Pros: GameStop is a great place to work part-time, like for students. The atmosphere is always laid back, and you just kinda hang out and talk… Cons: Sell. Sell. Sell. The problem with GameStop is that they pretty much only care about selling. Your sales numbers are the only thing you are… Advice to Senior Management: Be more transparent with your store managers. Tell them what's going on in… More

Great place if your a director or above, maybe IT but most other depts lack of salary helps pay those salaries at the top

Corporate Employee (Current Employee) Grapevine, TX

I have been working at GameStop

Pros: They offer good benefits as far as that goes, but then try to sell… Cons: It's great if you've either been there forever or start out at a director level or above.… Advice to Senior Management: Why not share some of the option cash you get… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
