I worked at GameStop full-time

Pros

Great product, exciting environement during big game release, great job for someone in their early 20s with no family or need for a life outside of Xbox Live till 3am.

Cons

No payroll. Company expects salaried manager to handle the workload of 3 people. Many of the task required by corporate cannot be done during store hours as you are constantly alone for the majority of your shift, requiring you to work long into the night or early mornings. If you can't even step out back to urinate for 3 minutes, how can you be expected to count all the 360 games?

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce tasks or alot more payroll to help out overworked and underpaid store managers.

Gamestop is the way to go when working the retail end of video games, but there's not much after the basics.

I worked at GameStop part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If your a gaming enthusiast, or just want to learn more about the industry and trends on a retail and social level, working here will definitely increase your knowledge on the gaming market. The hours are amazingly flexible, and if you're ever curious about trying games, employees are offered a discount on used games.

    Cons

While the hours are very flexible, it's generally because there are none: Game Advisors usually have three work-days a week, plus special releases (i.e. midnight releases). It's not a position that you can rely on to pay the monthly bills.

It was a great experience filled with both ups and downs.

I worked at GameStop full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The benefits of renting games before purchasing them.

    Cons

The holiday hours were extended to compete with bigger corporations like Walmart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise to revert back to the pre-GameStop era. It was great when customers could try the games they wanted instead of the games preloaded into the systems on the floor.
