I worked at GameStop full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Coworkers and general work environment was great. Departments work well with other departments. They prefer to hire within so the opportunities are there. Benefits are really good as well.

Cons

Management (corporate) can be straight @$$holes. And in the department I was in, management was VERY biased and promoted/terminated based on favoritism.

    Current Employee - Store Manager
    Current Employee - Store Manager

I have been working at GameStop full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Can be a fun place to work. The starting salary for a Management job in retail was pretty good, considering the economic state of the country.

    Cons

The starting salary for a Management job in retail, considering everything that is required of the Job, is mediocre at best.

The demands of the job can overwhelming at most times. There seems to be a serious lack of consideration by the company, to appropriately allocate payroll hours to stores, as a result the store managers are given direction to "Pick up the slack" when necessary. The company says that they promote a healthy work / life balance but then take corrective action in the event something goes wrong on your vacation and/or day off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read reviews on what current and former employees are saying. Not everyone is a disgruntled ex-employee. Some genuinely love the company, but are in constant fear of losing their jobs over performance files they can't effectively move.

Location, Location, Location - Sometimes a staff can be good/great, but they suffer in sales performance because of the socio-economics and/or demographic of the neighborhood where the store is located.
