    Pros

Gamestop is a fantastic working environment for young gamers. If you are a person in college it is the perfect job, the pay is very low because the business is not extremely productive, but the experience is good. If you prove to be responsible, trustworthy and in general have a nack for retail, you can advance to a good career with the company. Make sure that you apply regularly online for assistant or general manager positions and check that you see gamestop as a career when you apply, no matter whether that is your goal or not it unlocks that door.

    Cons

There are cons depending on your personality, on one hand they really push pre-order sales, the sale of a product before it is even released and thus, no way to verify its quality. This is a hard thing to sell and your performance is measured almost exclusively by corporate based on this. Another con will be having to work with lazy managers or supervisors, these positions are poorly paid and people who are good managers tend to find other work that pays better fast. This allows a person to move up quickly as managers and assistant managers bleed from the company at high rates, but this also means you will also.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to not measure employee performance by pre order sales, instead trust your general managers to judge employees on a variety of standards. Work ethic, ability to communicate and interact with customers, ability to up-sell, ability to work under pressure and a host of other metrics that managers could use to judge employees.

  2. Helpful (1)

Solid company, great place to work, but not to grow. Too much friction to new ideas.

    Pros

Relatively low stress, great people, flexible hours. Cash rich, debt free, solid market. In-house cafeteria with pretty good food.

    Cons

Unexplainable gulf between everyday employees and upper management. Seems to be zero articulated Vision from the top beyond "sell stuff". Offices are built into a warehouse, very few windows, sloppy cubicles, sloppy dressed employees (jeans, t-shirts everyday), a lot of non-commitment and "maybe someday".

    Advice to Management

Walk around and meet your people, proactively. And regularly. Find out what's going on in the online retail world and pursue it instead of hiding from it.
