Current Employee - Part Time in San Diego, CA
Current Employee - Part Time in San Diego, CA
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

-Surrounded by a cool subject matter -Customers can be fun to talk to -If you have a good manager, the job is somewhat enjoyable

    Cons

-God awful customers ruin your day -Everything is based upon your subscription, reservation, and customer service survey percentage -District managers are stubborn and neglect obvious issues that are impossible for change (I.E. location) -The pay is horrible. After 3 years of getting very high raises (high for the company) You may make over a dollar from where you started (part time positions) -Management pay is incredibly poor for how much effort and work you put in -Immense lack of hours -Constantly having goals that are borderline unreachable

    Advice to Management

Managers, just make suer you treat your lower positioned employee's with respect, and constructive criticism is always best. They are essentially everything you have. SH*% flows downstream.

  2. Fun job if you like video games

Former Employee - Third Key Manager in Fort Worth, TX
Former Employee - Third Key Manager in Fort Worth, TX
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The best reason to work at gamestop, would have to be the opportunity to take home games to boost your "Product Knowledge". You do get an employee discount (15%) but I hardly ever bought games. Depending on the type of day, the job could get pretty relaxed.

    Cons

The pay at Gamestop is unacceptable. Game Associates get paid minimum wage. 4th key managers get paid about 15 cents over minimum wage. 15 cent raise for management? The problem is, that Gamestop knows people want to work for them. The benefit of just bringing home games might be enough for some of the nerdier employees, but I felt I was not paid enough for the work I had done as a 3rd Key Manager.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people and offer rewards for sales. Trust me, people will work harder to meet sales goals when they are getting compensation. If the company refuses to add bonuses or commission for sales, at least offer some kind of compensation. There really is no pressure to meet sales goals. And with no rewards for doing so, its usually the last thing an employee cares about.
