I worked at Gander Mountain full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Flexible scheduling while in school. Fun group of people to work with. Lots of interaction with the public and coworkers.

Cons

The company provides low pay with no cost of living raises. New hires are paid more than employees that have been there several years. Work holidays and weekends. No opportunity for growth.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need regoinal buyers so that product in the store is relevant to the area.

I have been working at Gander Mountain part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome discounts from manufacturers, store discount will even out the overpriced products they carry. Employees are fun to work with.

    Cons

Almost everything. The Summit, Credit and Firearms Protection Plan are just shy of a complete joke. Don't get me wrong, I love working there, but the goals of obtaining those 'insurance' plans are completely unobtainable. If you work in footwear, you get publicly shunned for not getting a summit plan, even though a lot of your product isn't eligible, same with hunting. The only positive position at the store is customer service, because those employees can usually obtain the controlable goal...

Constant threats of being fired for not meeting goals is inevitable, no room for advancement and raises, they do not care about you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more regional, preorder things for different seasons instead of all across the board. Order things BEFORE or maybe even a couple days after they go OOS, instead of two months later. Reward good salesmen for doing a good job with raises, nothing better than positive reinforcement.

I have been working at Gander Mountain part-time

    Pros

Great Discount, share love of outdoors with others.

    Cons

Horrible management. Not focused on recommending products / services I have used in field, more sales based, with credits / summit plans. Management constantly exploits employes fear of termination.
