I worked at Gartner full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

High quality people who generally put the customer first.
Competitive pay.
Good benefits.
Generally well regarded company by others in IT and other industries.
Very good environment for those who perform.

Cons

Internal Sales process seems to have become overly complex with a too much emphasis on reporting and managing upward.
Pricing flexibility and giving the customer exactly whet they need/want was often at odds with what Gartner management packaged and prices. Too much "one size fits all" strategy for pricing and service delivery.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flexibility in the service delivery options will make life better for both your field reps and, most importantly, your customers. This may have been addressed some since I left; not sure.

Fun atmosphere and great company, but a low ceiling for growth.

I have been working at Gartner full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There is a great feeling of camaraderie amongst employees. Also, they start you with 21 days of PTO on your first day. Great business structure with an outstanding reputation.

    Cons

The compensation is too low, and there is not an opportunity for significant bonuses as the year goes. You have to be with the company for at least 2 years before you can look elsewhere in the company for a new position, and the options for job movement is very horizontal as opposed to vertical. It is a great place to make a career after 10 years of work experience, but right out of college there is nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for your all-stars and work with them to move upward in the company and provide a lucrative career path based on performance.

Need to improve work-life balance. Management needs to be more clear on what the workloads really are are.

I have been working at Gartner full-time

    Pros

    - Great organizational knowledge and willingness to share
    - Wonderful platform to propel a person into the limelight
    - Solid business execution

    Cons

    - Analysts and Sales (especially in high demand areas) experience no work life-balance situation
    - Management has become disconnected from the realities of being an employee, making changes that only add to process workload and do little to move the needle.
    - Focused too heavily on Wall Street. Research changes and focus on generating money now effecting quality of output and quality of life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop focusing so much on moving our stock, focus on the customer rather than measurements of internal activities and the stock will continue to move. Be good by making sure your employees are not burnt out, and it will be reflected in the market.
