I have been working at Gartner full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

A significant percentage of the employees have been at Gartner for decades, showing that the job and the company still provide a challenging, satisfying work environment. Compensation is good, excellent benefits.

Cons

Too much of a focus on metrics when it comes to performance reviews. Consulting organization seems to be always chasing the big boys, constantly reorganizing and shifting metrics to match what the competition is doing - whether or not it makes sense for Gartner.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enough with the change just for the sake of change. And if your organization is so complex that you have to send out multiple emails to explain who employees should be rating in an upward feedback survey, then perhaps that organization structure should be rethought.

Wonderful company and great IP, and great people, but culture is changing for the worst

I have been working at Gartner full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the best and brightest work here. Culture of high intelligence and innovative thinking. Great training. Effective processes. Household name, so easier time getting in the door.

    Cons

PTO is frowned upon in sales. Moving from a strategic company to transaction based. Territories are shrinking and earning potential decreasing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't run your tenured AE's off. Realize that territories run in cycles, and some markets are emerging versus others that are mature. Let your employees work from home some and take PTO. Running people too hard and too fast burns them out.

I have been working at Gartner

    Pros

Love being part of a growing organization. It provides lots of opportunities and new learning experiences. Coworkers tend to turn into friends and most people have significant tenure.

    Cons

Upward mobility may be limited in remote office locations. Senior leadership is typically located at headquarters.
