I worked at Gates Moore & Company

Pros

free parking, overtime pay during tax season, 1/2 Fridays in the Summer, CPA license not required for professional advancement

Cons

favoritism - cliques discourage team work
no communication from management - staff are left in the dark about the direction of the company
low pay - salaries not comparable with other similar CPA firms in the city
restrictive work-from-home policy - firm has the technical ability to allow WFH, but management disallows it
repetitive work - projects are the same on a monthly/quarterly basis leads to boredom and little tax knowledge in the tax dept

Advice to ManagementAdvice

require senior-level tax managers to obtain a CPA license so the staff will feel motivated to advance their careers as well.

    Pros

Salary is in line with market for pay for staff accountants and benefits have improved. Maternity leave policy is not so great unless you've been there for over 4 years.

    Cons

Managers & Principals don't treat staff as a real part of the "team" , contrary to what they like to stress. Staff level employees don't get the basic perks of telecommuting. And in your annual performance, there's always something negative to say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff level is just as important as your seniors & managers. Treating them with a little more respect can go far. Also, having a tax & accounting dept manager that's can't pass the CPA exam doesn't bode well for the staff that's below her, who have obtained their CPA.
