Pros

There are plenty of learning opportunities here. You see all of the technologies role out each quarter and get to see them in action. Pretty good accommodations on tech.

Cons

Very frustrating at times. Leadership could be absolutely horrible at times. The clip-on tie is a bit janky.

Advice to Management

Your subordinates are subordinates, but you can find other ways to treat them and NEVER talk down to them in front of anyone else. Be professional.

Stepping stone to a career in IT... with plenty of sales exposure.

    Pros

    - Hands on experience with the latest *Consumer* technology (laptops, desktops, tablets, etc)

    - (Usually) tight knit team of "agents" (co workers)

    - *Slightly* higher base pay then average entry level store workers

    - Lots of employee only activities (in store and out) that make you feel like part of a team

    - Company culture (you will quickly learn what *great* customer service is... or else..)

    - Access to various "specials" only available to retail sector employees from various businesses

    - Quarterly bonus (based on overall store performance)

    Cons

    - (Keeping in mind, you'll probably get this anywhere you go; I found this to be especially true at Geek Squad..) Rabid customers expecting you to fix their 12 year old eMachine, that has never been dusted out, did not have antivirus, and happened to catch fire last night, all with a wave of your magic wand, for free, because they purchased it from a best buy in another state 12 years ago, and think they might still have a warranty.

    - Barely livable salary

    - Very little freedom to think outside the box (ie, follow policy, or else...)

    - Arbitrarily (and selectively) enforced company policies

    - Management can collect their bonus, even if store did not earn theirs.

    Advice to Management

Hold your store management teams accountable for their actions, not just the revenue the store generates. Pay your employees livable wages (Costco, anyone?). Hold management accountable to the same bonus thresholds as the rest of the store. Give your employees the freedom to learn, grow, and think outside the box. Tone down the forced swarm mentality of your employees; some people just want to browse.

    Pros

Gain very basic PC software skills.
Gain very basic PC upgrading experience (hard disk installation and simple data recovery, memory and expansion card installation)
    Gain basic customer service experience

    Cons

One or two agents actually work on systems; all other agents deal with customers and check-in
If you transfer from another area of the Best Buy store into Geek Squad, don't count on getting any pay raise you are promised; get it in writing.

    Advice to Management

Follow through on your pay raise promises, or don't make them.
