Great colleagues, reasonable work requirements

ProsWorking with lots of clever people makes things more fun and interesting
Successfully producing new drugs that help people makes work fulfilling
The work life balance is very reasonable so long as you are efficient at getting your work done
Management really cares about employees and wants us to be happy

ConsFlat structure makes it hard to be promoted in more than name
Not a great location for living close to work, everyone just about has some sort of commute

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Research career at Genentech is hierarchical, unappreciated, underpaid and a dead-end career

    I worked at Genentech full-time for more than 3 years


    Pros: Best in class for biotech research, top-scientist, ample resources available… Cons: Career advancement opportunities are extremely limited (almost non-existent) in research at Genentech. A research associate with a master's degree has never… Advice to Senior Management: Researchers are not your slaves. Respect them, offer other career alternatives, promote from within and you will see the organization succeed. Genentech has dropped… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
