I have been working at Genentech full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Work-life balance
Personal Excellence Program
Company buses to several regions in bayarea

Cons

Too many politics. No focus on patients or customers. Everybody is for their own. Too depressed staff due to several rounds of reorganization.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a grip. Saving money isn't everything. Provide value to business by innovation. In the business we are in, saving a few dollars isn't going to make a difference compared to the immense potential new investments can make.

I worked at Genentech full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Genentech used to be a place with dogs, free expression, the CEO's well-known disdain for powerpoint presentations, and beers at 3pm. It was the world's most startuppy corporation. Since the Roche acquisition, those days are long gone, but Genentech is still a fantastic place to work in terms of benefits, thought leadership, and company focus.

    Cons

Not many, really. Top pay. Smart people. Things can be pretty sucky if you're a contractor, but aside from that, I'd say the only downside is typical red tape and politics, which you'll find at any company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push back harder on Roche's cost-cutting. Make Genentech fun again.

I have been working at Genentech as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great Environment. Great motivated people. Great places to eat. I live one hour away from this company and I highly appreciate the Genenbus. Without it, I would be wasting a lot of gas and harming the environment.

    Cons

Too many inequalities between regular employees and contractors. Contractors can't go to socials which are suppose to bring employees together so they can bond. Wouldn't that make the company stronger? But no, contractors are not allowed to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on better equality between regular employees and contractors.
