Great benefits, wonderful people to work with. Personal growth and development is emphasized, comfortable work environment

    Cons

    Not the old Genentech

I have been working at Genentech

    Pros

Brilliant people; thoughtful, cutting edge science; great growth opportunities if you can find them; great company perks

    Cons

Politics!!! Lack of career growth opportunities. Highly competitive, (at times) disrespectful and transactional culture. Many in senior positions are out for themselves and will step on you or throw you under the bus to move up or make themselves look good. Can take years to establish yourself and gain enough visibility to be given career growth opportunities (this was not the case with pre-Roche Genentech); some bad department-level management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assure career growth at all job levels; closely evaluate mid level management; discourage disrespectful behavior - it's more than about managing up well
