Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I worked at Genentech as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Excellent opportunities to learn pharmaceutical world cGMP, SOP processing, Regulatory, NovaManage database.

Cons

Some BUs are badly managed, contractors kept in mushroom mode. In CIT the project managers' rivalry sabotaged many projects, & communication both within the BU & interdepartmental communication could be vastly improved. Projects as well as budgets & people can't be managed efectively via email.

Advice to Management

More permanent employees who become company stakeholders, less reliance on contractors.

I worked at Genentech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Big Company with stability and future growth since they became Roche.

    Cons

Contractors are alienated. Also, be ready to get on the lemmings train...conform....or goodbye to you. The funny thing is, they try to push outside the box thinking....but shun you when you speak up. And this coming from MULTIPLE people ( more ex employees as well) = Way too much Politics and drama in Oceanside.

    Advice to Management

Don't try to manage every aspect of every person. Some people are good at certain things and not so much at others. Don't use tactics like upgrading a system to relieve yourself from people that are less fortunate. Also, Introverts are not bad people. Some of the greatest minds ever were that way.

I worked at Genentech as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, good food and good work environment. There is definitely a lot of great people working here.

    Cons

There was a distinct culture and air about those who are fully benefitted from the contractors and the consultants. Management would incentivize contractors with job interviews to ensure that they would continue doing a good job, but they can be very hierarchical so that it makes employees disgruntled with why some of the best talent isn't retained.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to hire and retain good talent, and be transparent about policies.
