I have been working at Genentech

Pros

Great opportunity to learn. For self-starters, a great environment to be on your own to get things done. No micromanagement.

Cons

Some weak middle management left bad, toxic apples in some departments. As long as you can avoid the toxic apples, your experience will be golden.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to get rid of bad apples individually, regardless of their tenure and knowledge.

    I worked at Genentech

    Pros

This is a great place to do research as a postdoc and to get exposure to high quality science and how it's connected to therapeutic development.

    Cons

As a postdoc, it is critical to work with a mentor that will provide guidance for working on a project that can be published, something that can be difficult depending on where you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be a more active role of the postdoc organizing committee to ensure that the postdocs are working on high quality projects that fit within the goals of the postdoc program.

    I worked at Genentech

    Pros

Amazing benefits, great culture, good leadership. There are so many professional and personal development courses offered at no cost to employees. Art Levinson is a truly inspirational leader and easy to stand behind and workhard for.

    Cons

Genentech is now owned by Roche, which leads to some uncertainty about leadership and vision. When Roche took over some talented top level managers left, and these were the people that made Genentech the success that it has become.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

dont lose track of what makes your employees happy and keeps them engaged in your mission.
