Pros

Great opportunity to get into the power generation industry if that is what interests you. The company really is world-class in terms of leading the industry. The benefits package is very fair. The new CEO is younger and could potentially change some of the company's old ways.

Cons

The company is very "old boys club". Most of the upper managers have worked their way up in the company since it's early days (the company is only 50 years old) It is hard for young people to gain respect of managers, coworkers and company "lifers". The company is/was very very very antiquated in terms of work/life balance. At the time I left, there was no "flex-time". Meaning as a salaried employee you had to work until 5 every day no matter what or take vacation time. You couldn't for example, work 7-4:30 on a day if you had to make it to the kids' soccer games by 5.

Advice to Management

Management certainly needs to respect and value education. They also should rapidly modernize the culture if they want to retain employees for the long term.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Many good people willing to help. Long term vision is encouraging. Willing to make needed changes to improve culture.

    Cons

VP level top heavy. Many new top level VP that are hired in, not promoted. Not enough experience at higher level to make a timely decision that actually sticks. Lots of back and forth with no accountability or willingness to make a call and deal with it. The fear of being wrong halts and slows progress on projects. Technology for Engineering is weak. Sub-par equipment and low investment in employee tools and facilities. General process are very weak. Lots of process that are not followed or even known about. What is present is very weak. There is a fear of process creep that could slow agility down, but making mistakes is also very expensive in rework and waste. Needs to be a compromise. Health Care benefit is weak if you live outside of Waukesha. Only par if you live in or near Waukesha.

    Advice to Management

Lots of frustration at lower levels. Slow or no decisions and flip flop in direction is a waste of time. Lots of good people doing hard work only to repeat it several times as minds are changed in management. Generac potential is good for the future, but they are losing good people. Pay is not the issue when people leave. Opportunities appear to be limited from below.

Great people to work with. Newly redesigned corporate office.

    Cons

Rapid growth has spurred some growing pains. Work/ life balance is no longer in line. Micro managed by top level managers.
